Richard earned his BA in Psychology from California State University, Long Beach and his MA in Counseling Psychology from National University, San Diego.

He has been counseling individuals, couples, families, and children for over 18 years in private and non-profit community organizations, hospitals, clinics, and schools. Having worked in a variety of diverse settings, he has gained valuable training and experience from many perspectives and incorporates this knowledge into each unique client's case.

Specializing in Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Richard is often able to help resolve client issues in relatively few sessions by setting clear, well defined outcomes and implementing strategic treatment plans. He also relies on Family Systems methodologies for working with couples, families, and other relationship issues as well as an Existential Therapy approach to dealing with deeper more persistent issues when appropriate.
