Policies

At California Mental Health Counseling Associates we strive to make every policy clearly understandable so you will knowingly feel comfortable as our client.

Appointments:

It is standard clinical practice that a one hour session consists of 50 minutes face to face discussion and therapy time followed by 10 minutes to make notes, review progress, and formulate ongoing treatment plans. California Mental Health Counseling Associates follows this policy to ensure each client gets the most from every session.

Your session time starts at the time you arrange to meet with your therapist. Because we often have other clients scheduled for the hour following yours,  please don't ask us to extend your session time if you arrive late.

We understand that you are busy and your time is valuable. We hope you understand the same is true for us. Missed appointments will be your responsibilty unless you give us at least 24 hours notice that you will not be able to make the appointment.

Confidentiality:

All information given to, and every discussion with, California Mental Health Counseling Associates' therapists, counselors, and staff is completely confidential. This is both assured and required by law and professional ethics. There are exceptions to the rules of confidentiality and your therapist will discuss those in detail with you prior to commencing counseling. The exceptions are as follows:

  • Information leading to a suspicion of child abuse.
  • Information leading to a suspicion of elder abuse.
  • Specific and serious threats to harm an identifiable person.
  • Specific and serious threats to harm yourself.

In these cases the law requires actions be taken to ensure safety for those involved.
